Jodie Applewaithe is a British-Canadian journalist and communications specialist based in Ottawa. Her work in print and radio broadcasting covers a variety of topics from the arts and popular culture scene to the environment and food security.
Currently, she works as an associate producer at CBC Ottawa, where she produces broadcast story segments for Ottawa Morning and All in a Day.
She graduated with high distinction from Carleton University, earning a bachelor of combined honours degree in Journalism and Film Studies. While at Carleton, she wrote for the Charlatan, the university chapter of Her Campus magazine and Capital Current.
Beyond her journalistic work, Jodie is an adept communicator who has contributed to several Government of Canada campaigns. She utilizes her knowledge of storytelling and the digital world to enhance promotion strategies for a broad audience demographic.
She is also a skilled researcher. She was a research assistant under the supervision of Nana aba Duncan, Carleton University’s Carty Chair in Journalism, Diversity and Inclusion Studies, working to launch a survey project on the experiences of Black journalists in Canada.
In all her ventures, Jodie is interested in identifying the human connections and social identities that underlay larger issues. She believes there is always a broader story to be told.
